Building foundations for life

About Us

Who We Are

Founded in 1903 and in continuous operation since 1912, College Park Elementary School (CPES) is one of the longest-established private elementary schools in Durham Region. For more than a century, we have remained committed to providing Christ-centred education that nurtures heart, body and mind.

As part of the global Seventh-day Adventist school network, CPES joins thousands of faith-based schools worldwide in a shared mission: developing young people of character, purpose, and academic strength.

Serving students from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8, CPES blends the Ontario Provincial Curriculum with the Seventh-day Adventist Curriculum to provide a balanced, values-based education. Our dedicated staff partners with families to support each child’s spiritual, intellectual, social, and physical growth.

At CPES, students are encouraged to discover their God-given potential, grow in integrity and resilience, and become morally and socially responsible leaders who positively impact their communities.

We are more than a school — we are a faith-filled learning community building foundations for life.

A Tradition of Excellence Since 1903

College Park Elementary School traces its roots to 1903, when it began as Lornedale Academy under the leadership of Eugene and Eva Leland. At that time there were eight students enrolled in grades ranging from 1-9. In 1912, the elementary division was reintroduced, and by 1914 the school had become a laboratory training school for teacher education, reflecting a growing commitment to Christian learning. Since 1912, the school has operated continuously.

Throughout the 1920s, the academic program strengthened and expanded. Continued growth led to the construction of a dedicated elementary building in 1949, with further additions in the 1950s to accommodate rising enrollment. During these formative years, devoted leaders and families helped shape both the campus and its strong sense of community.

Over time, the school’s name and location evolved — including a period as Oshawa Missionary College Elementary School — before moving to its current Townline Road location in 1972 as College Park Elementary School.

Today, CPES stands as one of the longest-established private elementary schools in Durham Region, carrying forward more than a century of Christ-centred education rooted in faith, growth, and service.

Our Motto

Knowledge for Today…Wisdom for Eternity

Our Mission

is to build a foundation for life through Christian education fostering each child’s spiritual, intellectual, social and physical development.

Our Philosophy - As a Seventh-day Adventist Institution

  • We believe in the existence of the Creator God; respecting and recognizing His supreme power over all things.
  • We believe that true education cooperates with God to develop the spiritual, mental, and physical traits of each student.
  • We believe in helping our students master academic skills and value work, both mental and physical, as a blessing from God.
  • We believe in the importance of developing a personal relationship with God. It is our desire to create lifelong followers of Jesus Christ who impact their community in the present and in the future.
  • We believe in nurturing our students to become constructive members of society: God-equipped difference makers that will positively change their surrounding spiritual and cultural climate for the glory of God.

Our Core Values

At College Park Elementary School, our foundation is rooted in faith. We believe God has uniquely created each child with purpose and has called our school family to nurture both the emotions and the intellect.

Our school community is guided by four core values: Emotional Intelligence, Respect, Integrity, and Grit. We believe God empowers us to:

  • Reflect Christ in how we understand and respond to emotions
  • Respect and honour one another as God’s children
  • Choose what is right, even when it is difficult
  • Persevere with courage and faith, trusting God through challenges.

Together, our families and staff intentionally nurture these Christ-centred values, planting them deeply in the hearts and minds of every student.
